Rufus King, son of John and Mary King, was born near Westchester, Pennsylvania, on September 15th, 1844 and departed this life May 20th, 1927, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ota Oyler, of Winchester, Indiana, aged 82 years, 8 months, and 5 days. He was of a family of ten children, all having preceded him to that final rest.

At the age of seventeen years he enlisted in the 124th Pennsylvania Regiment, serving until honorably discharged. He came to Indiana and enlisted in Company C , 19th Indiana Iron Brigade, and served until the close of the war. He was a member of Nelson Trusler Post No. 60, Winchester.

He was married to Martha Bolinger on June 21st, 1866: to this union were born two sons and three daughters, Charles R., Mary E., William R., Iva P., and Alice Bell. The wife, William R. and  Alice Bell preceded him.

Those left to mourn his departure are Charles R., Mary E., and Iva Pearl, all of Winchester, Indiana: three grandsons, four granddaughters, two great grandsons, and one great granddaughter, and other relatives and friends.

In the year 1918 he married Ellen Harris who died in the year 1923.

Rufus King was a man of sterling qualities when in health: he was industrious, always standing for the things that went to make good citizenship. And in concluding this brief biography, we firmly believe that when we have crossed the Bar and the curtains of that Great White Throne are drawn aside we will meet again this Soldier, Father and Friend.

The funeral services were held at the Maxville Chursh, Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Harvey Thornburg and the G.A.R. officiating. Burial was in Maxville Cemetery.
