Private Trent was wounded in three places at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 and remained on the battlefield unattended until July 5th. He was pickup and taken into town then sent to Baltimore where he received medical attention by a private family. He would be discharged by the years end for disability.

He filed for a pension in January of 1864.
