Private Roberts was discharged for disability early in the war.

On September 24th, 1862 he mustered into Company I of the 3rd Indiana Cavalry where he served until January of 1865 when he was transferred to Company L of the 8th Indiana Calvary. He would muster out on June 8th, 1865.
