Private Patterson was promoted to Corporal and held that rank until he left the service in 1864. He was wounded at the Battle of Antietam on September 17th, 1862 and again at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 and captured. He was soon paroled and he returned to the regiment. He was seriously hurt in a train accident in the winter of 1864 near Pittsburgh Penn.
For a good many years he was the Commander of the Williams Post

He received a pension after the war.
