Private Lamb was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. In the fall of 1864 he transferred to the 20th Indiana Infantry with the other surviving members of the 19th.

When he mustered out of the service he held the rank of Corporal.

He filed for and started to receive a pension in 1868.
