Private Kennedy was wounded at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862 and again at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864. In the fall of 1864 he would transfer to the 20th Indiana Infantry along with the other surviving members of the 19th.
