During the winter of 1863 the question of re-enlisting for a period of three more years was put to the surviving members of the 19th Indiana. After participating in some of the most bloody battles of the war and after being shot in the face at the Battle of Brawner Farm Private Kennedy was one of the men that signed up to finish the job they started in 1861.
