Private Jackson was one of the few men from the 19th Indiana that was not wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. He would transfer to the 20th Indiana Infantry as a Corporal in the fall of 1864 with the other surviving members of the 19th.

He filed for and started to receive a pension in 1884.
