The taps sounded at 1:30 pm yesterday afternoon for William Griffin, 79 and a veteran of the Civil War. Mr. Griffin served in the famous Company C of the 19th Indiana, famous during the war as "The Iron Brigade" and was with them during the entire war.
The aged man has been suffering from dropsey for several months and this combined with his advanced age caused his death yesterday. He is survived by four children all of who were present at the time of his death. Since the death of his wife, 15 years ago, Mr. Griffin made his home with his children and has been in this city most of his life. He was born in Indiana. He was a member of the M.P. church and a consistant christian man. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, with the Rev. Mr. Evans and Rev. Polly Couch in charge, interment will occur in the city cemetery.
