1st. Lieutenant Greene was soon promoted to Captain and was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. He spent the rest of the war in rebel prison camps until he was parolled in the spring of 1865.
He arrived back home to Muncie Indiana the night President Lincoln was assassinated.
