John M. Fitsimmons

Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861

Buried Shiloh Cemetery, Grant County Indiana

Private Fitsimmons was wounded in the hip at the Battle of Antietam on September 17th, 1862 and again in the right leg a the Battle of Petersburg Virginia on June 18th, 1864. His leg was amputated at the knee and he died from gangrene two months later.

His mother Rebecca was forced to file for a 'mothers' pension in July of 1865.
