Private Driver was wounded in the calf of his leg at the Battle of Antietam on September 17th, 1862 and was able to walk off the field of battle. After being dicharged from the 19th he again joined the Army on May 24th, 1864 as a Lieutenant in Company F of the 134th Indiana Infantry. He mustered out of the service on September 2nd 1864.

He filed for and started to receive a pension in 1874.
Joab's father Jacob  was a veteran in the War of 1812.
