Private Dickover was captured for a short time at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 and returned to the regiment later that summer. He transferred to the 20th Indiana Infantry in the fall of 1864 with the other surviving members of the 19th.
Samuel received a pension after the war.
