Private Blackledge was wounded at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run on August 30th, 1862. He was later promoted to Corporal and was again wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. He would be discharged from the service because of his Gettysburg wound.
Hiram filed for and started to receive a pension in 1864.
