Commissary Sergeant Baker served with the 19th Indiana until April of 1864 when he left to be a First Lieutenant in the Commissary Department of the 9th Indiana Calvary. He served there until the muster out of the regiment in August of 1865.

He filed for a pension in April of 1892.
